CLD and September

The month started with dropping Mason, Eduardo, and Marcella off at Word of Life for the CLD Experience. This is a weekend for the kids to get an idea of what attending the year long CLD (Course in Leadership and Discipleship) Program will be like.

Mason loved it. He knew a lot of the current CLD and seminary students already, as they serve at Vinde camps some, so that helped him fit right in. I was worried about the classes, as they (and the whole program) are all entirely in Portuguese but he said he kept up just fine. He mentioned his brain was a little tired as he listened in Portuguese but took notes in English but other than that he was good.

There is a lot of interest in this program this year. He’s working on his application now. He will live on campus which means he’ll be moving out at 17 in February next year. It’s going to be weird with just the three of us at home but I’m so proud of him for pushing outside his comfort zone and embracing this culture and it’s people. He is really coming into his own.

As promised last month, Tucker’s sweet baking experiment was doughnuts. They were so soft and yummy. He loves the feel of kneading the dough. He likes to bake things and I’m here for it. We’re all happy to taste his creations.

Marcella and her mom joined the church this month and I went to support her. She’s been struggling some since her dad left and her grandfather died but she’s hanging in there.

We took some of the teens to the grocery store for a little English lesson and ended our time with a stop at the ice cream shop. They loved the field trip but were a little embarrassed when I whipped out my little white board in the middle of the store and we went over saying some the names of items in English. Ha. Teens.

Alan and Aline, the coordinators at the Imperial location, treated Tucker and some of the other teen volunteers to a night at the movies. Tuck had a great time.

We have had a lot, and I mean A LOT of rain this year, especially this month, which has lead to flooding in our area.

So it’s getting harder and harder for me to see up close to cut the guys’ hair. I’ve been cutting their hair since the pandemic and Trevor refuses to go back to the barber. Well, this little whoopsie had nothing to do with my eyesight. I was just talking and got distracted and forgot I had already taken the guard off the clippers when I decided to give Trev one more swipe before I switched to the scissors. Yikes. Let’s just say, Trev won’t need another haircut anytime soon.

Well, the last day of the month landed us on an airplane. The next two weeks are going to be jam packed. Until the October post, tchau.
