So the May post is getting posted in July instead of June but hey, at least it’s getting posted. Better late than never, right? The first week started off with dinner at Nacho Man for Cinco de Mayo. There’s not a lot of Mexican joints to chose from here. Really in our whole town of over 150,000 people, we have three options. And the following week, this place was out of business. Oh, how we miss Mexican food here. But we had a good time eating and hanging out with Sarah, her roommate Emily, interns- Avery, Cianna, and Rayane, and Kevin.
The following Sunday was Mother’s Day or Dia das Mães in Portuguese. Unlike Father’s Day, Mother’s Day is the same day here in Brazil as it is in the US. The boys were sneaky and asked Emily to make me some cinnamon rolls for breakfast so it was literally a sweet surprise.
Mason was busy, busy with another camp. He has matured so much over the past couple of years here. I’m so proud of him.
Rayane celebrated her birthday with pizza and goodies at our house.
She is obsessed with toucans, so the guys made toucan outfits to surprise her. Then it was a night of fellowship and games.
As part of our job helping lead the interns, we have family days once a month. This consists of outings or game nights or other hang outs to foster friendship, boost morale, and exposure them to Brazilian culture. One trip we try to take each year is to Joanópolis to see the waterfall, play in the river, and eat fried tilapia and mandioca. Interns: Tommy, Evan, Rayane, Cianna, and Avery, along with us and Sarah loaded up in the black van and had a great trip.
Ministry is still going well. What started out as a simple hug quickly turned into a dog-pile hug fest with the kids at the Imperial location.
The Vinde Criar program is going great. This is a picture of Laura, one of our teens in the program with her snack creation that she made with Natalia from Casa Molina Cafe. I got to taste test and I can confirm it was delicious.
The Criar building is complete. While the rest of the hands on classes will start second semester, the mechanic class will start in mid-June.
Tommy and Avery both went home this month (a week apart from each other) but right after they went home, a new Moyo intern, Kaylee, arrived. We have had our hands full with a rotation of interns this first semester but it has been a blessing and they are such a big part of our ministry.
Short and sweet. June will probably be a two parter and I’m hoping I get both posts done in July so I’ll be all caught up. Until then…tchau.
