Home..but for only a month

Well, after 80 days on the road, visiting 30 states, Canada twice, driving almost 10,000 miles, and only cracking a windshield, we made it back to our home…our real home.

As nice as it is to be home and be in our own beds, we are all ready to get back out on the road.

This time things will be different this time- it’s camper time!!! Me and the boys are psyched! (Do people still say psyched?) Anyway, whatever the cool word for excited is, that’s what we are. Trevor…not so much.

We renewed the camper tag but we couldn’t renew the car and truck tag yet. I’m not sure how that’s going to work. I tried to explain to the lady at the tag office that I would not be here to renew my tags in January. Then she explained how I can renew them online. Then I explained how I will be on the road and won’t be at home to get the tag in the mail. Then she explained that stinks for us but there’s nothing she can do. Awe, man! Oh well, I’m sure we’ll figure something out closer to time for renewal.

The boys want to see their friends but they are in school and then have after school activities and we have been going back and forth between Ellijay and Gainesville a bunch running errands and trying to see family so making schedules work is a bit harder than usual.

We went and and checked on the camper. I was a little nervous as to what shape she would be in after sitting closed up for three months. But she was in great shape! No mice, no critters, not even wasps nests, etc.

We took her out for a two night trial run to make sure things were running okay. We stayed at Don Carter State Park. It was nice and clean. The boys enjoyed the playground and the outdoor body weight exercise machines were a hit. Aunt Trishy and Uncle Dusty got Mason a scratch off map last Christmas to keep up with all the states we visited on this trip. I put it on the fridge in the camper, thinking we were going on the camper, and then we went in the car. Oops. So Mason was excited to finally get to scratch off all the states we had been to.

Everything in the camper was fine. Sorry to report but there were no crazy mishap stories this time. No sewer issues, nothing. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll mess something up very soon. Just stay tuned. We’ve got another camping trip planned in a week. Plenty of opportunity for failure. 😂

It’s finally starting to feel like fall. There are lots of things to do in North Georgia in the fall – corn mazes, tons of apple houses like Jamore Farms, BJ Reece and Hillcrest (this is Georgia so of course that includes pig races for some crazy reason), Georgia Apple Festival, Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, haunted trails and more.

We are skipping the Apple Festival this year but we did squeeze in a trip to BJ Reece Apple House and picked some apples for my grandmother and us.

The boys wanted some caramel apples. I find a whole caramel apples messy and hard to eat. So I used a melon baller to dig out “mini apples” out of a bigger apple, stuck a toothpick in them, dipped them in caramel, and then rolled them in finely chopped pecans. Worked like a charm. Boys loved them. Who am I kidding? I loved them too.

Well, I’ll let you know in a week or two how things go after our next camping trip, some birthday parties, a wedding, and our anniversary. Until then, enjoy the wonderful fall weather.
